Roofing
We offer a variety of residential roof services ranging from roof repairs and maintenance to installation of new systems such as asphalt shingle roofs, wood shakes, metal roofs and flat roofs. Our roof professionals are well qualified and very experienced at installing and maintaining all of these roofing systems.
Whether you are a homeowner needing an existing roof replaced, maintenance manager for a commercial building, home builder needing a roof installed on a home under construction, or a remodeling contractor needing a roof installed on a new home or addition, Smith General Contracting has the “in house” staff you need to get your project completed professionally & competitively! We may not be the lowest priced contractor you could find, but unlike most contractors, we don’t “cut corners” in order to give the false impression of offering the best deal. And cutting corners usually ends up costing you more in the long run when unexpected leaks force you to not only pay for proper repair of the roof, but repair of the resulting interior damage too! Regrettably, cutting corners is an all too common business practice.
For example, many contractors fail to:
Replace the step flashings where the roof adjoins the siding.
Install metal valley flashing of sufficient width to meet the 24-inch minimum width requirement.
Install saddles on chimneys that are 30-inches or wider.
Install 2-plies of underlayment beneath shingles on roof slopes less than 4-in-12.
Apply mastic along sides of metal valley flashings.
Clip the top corner of shingles at roof valleys. Repair trusses where needed.
Provide snow resistant / bird proof roof vents.
And the list goes on…
The few examples of “cutting corners” just mentioned are not only common place, but often result in leakage. Regrettably, many homeowners simply don’t realize the level of craftsmanship & specific materials actually required to provide a “good” roof installation.
The simple facts are that just about anyone can fasten roofing materials to a roof deck, but few actually have the expertise to furnish the appropriate materials and install them “correctly”, especially where the roof adjoins siding, chimneys, skylights, vent pipes, roof vents, valleys, etc. And, regrettably a high percentage of those paid to install roofing materials these days fall into that category! Not so at Smith General Contracting, Inc., but don’t take our word for it. We strongly encourage you to compare us to other contractors.
